Why You Never Want To Skip Going To The Dentist

Dentist Blog

Too many people find that because they are uncomfortable with dentistry work being performed on them, that they would rather skip their yearly exams and cleanings. Even if that is not the case for you and you have just found yourself to be very busy, you do not want to skip out on your regular visits to the dentist. Here's why:

You Could Develop Very Large Cavities

They might start off as small cavities but if you do not get something done about them as soon as possible, they can quickly develop into much larger problems. The cavities themselves can dramatically grow in size, and you could end up with a dental infection. If the infection is not treated quickly, it can get very severe and possibly end up in your blood stream, which can lead to death. Since some very small cavities may not cause you any pain or discomfort, you might not know that they are there until much later. However, if you make it a point to keep up with regular visits to a dentist -- like Mainwaring John D DDS -- he or she should be able to spot them during the routine exam.

Your Teeth Will Stain

It is important to go for regular cleanings at the dentist office even if you make a point to always brush, floss, and even use mouthwash. There is only so much you can do, and you may find that it can be rather difficult to reach some sections of your teeth that the dentist or his assistant would have no trouble with. Also, by going for routine cleanings, they can keep the plaque from building up on your teeth. With the buildup of plaque gone, you will not have to worry as much about having a smile that you are embarrassed by. With the help of your dentist, you can keep a nice bright smile.

Now, if you have not been to the dentist in a while and you are due for another routine checkup, you will want to go ahead and give them a call. Should you have any problems, you will want to explain that you need a thorough examination, a cleaning, and possibly some dental work done depending on what they find the problem to be. This will help ensure that the receptionist will schedule you for an appointment that has enough time for the dentist to tend to all of those things.
